Dorothy Davies-Flindall, a well-known member of many national and diocesan church committees, was elected prolocutor of the General Synod of the Anglican Church of Canada.

Ms. Davies-Flindall was elected on the second ballot at the gathering of the General Synod, meeting at the University of Waterloo from July 4-11. She was on a slate of five candidates, including Archdeacon James Cowan (diocese of British Columbia), Helen Harradence (diocese of Saskatchewan), Archdeacon Helena-Rose Houldcroft (diocese of Qu’Appelle) and James Sweeny (diocese of Quebec).

Next to the primate, or president, of Synod, the prolocutor is the senior officer of the General Synod. Only the orders of clergy and laity (and not bishops) may vote for the office.

A lay person from the diocese of Ontario (located in eastern Ontario), Ms. Davies-Flindall has served the national church on the Council of General Synod, Partners in Mission and the Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund, where she was chairperson for seven years. She is also on the board of directors with the Canadian Council of Churches.

She also shaped the meeting of General Synod, serving as chairperson of its agenda committee.
