The Canadian Anglican House of Bishops begins the business portion of its last meeting before General Synod in Niagara Falls, Ont., today.
Yesterday, the bishops met in a retreat lead by Archbishop of Canterbury Dr. Rowan Williams who spoke to them several times on the theme of apostolic ministry. Dr. Williams returned to England last night.
Tomorrow, the bishops will deal with the nominations of people to succeed Archbishop Andrew Hutchison who announced a year ago that he would retire as Primate after General Synod in June.
The bishops are also considering a report from a task force on the primacy that they established last year.
Also before them are a number of resolutions approved by the Council of General Synod at its spring meeting dealing with the blessing of same-sex unions. CoGS commended these resolutions to General Synod.
The bishops have before them two documents on these resolutions — one from the bishops of the ecclesiastical province of Rupert’s Land, and another submitted to them by a group of Canadian theologians. These documents can be found below.
