Biographical Sketch:

Spencer Ervin (1886-1967), a historian specializing in the polity of the Anglican Church was the author of numerous articles and a series of books.  He was an active layman, notably as a Deputy to General Convention from the Diocese of Pennsylvania for six conventions.  He served as Secretary of the Standing Liturgical Commission, and secretary of the Historical Society of the Protestant Episcopal Church (1951-1958).

Custodial History:
These xeroxed pages, part of a projected constitutional history of the Anglican Church, were submitted by Spencer Ervin’s daughter (possibly by the author himself) to Canon R.R. Latimer and Bishop H.R. Hunt for revision. The Rev. T.R. Millman deposited them in the Archives.
Scope and Content:

Fonds consists of xeroxed copies of two sections of a manuscript on the development of the synodical system in the Anglican Church.
