Florence Li Tim-oi (1907-1992) was born in Hong Kong.  She was educated in a Chinese government school and attended middle school in Hong Kong.  While in middle school she and the rest of her family were baptised Anglican.  The Rev. Li had the opportunity to attend Guangzhou Union Theological College and graduated in 1938.  She served in Macao during the war years.  She was ordained deaconess in 1941 and priest in 1944 by Bishop R.O. Hall, of Hong Kong and South China.  This made her the first woman to be ordained priest in the world-wide Anglican Communion.  After the war, she participated in the Three-Self Patriotic Movement, separating the Chinese Church from its image as a foreign church, making Christians truly a part of their country.  The Rev. Li retired in Canada where her relatives lived.
