Committee on Chaplain Services in the Forces fonds—1962-1980

Administrative History:

During World War II chaplains of various denominations served Canada’s Navy, Army and Air Force.  After the war, it was decided to continue chaplaincy services to the military personnel and to their families. Chaplains are provided for the Forces by the Canadian Anglican, Baptist, Lutheran, Presbyterian, and United Churches.  The Canadian Council of Churches’ Committee on Chaplain Service in the Forces is the recognized agency for Chaplain Service (Protestant).  It was united with Roman Catholic service in 1996.

Custodial History:
Papers acquired by the Archives from the Most Rev. G.F.C Jackson in 1980.
Scope and Content:

Fonds consists of minutes, correspondence, Anglican Chaplain’s Clericus, Collections Committee, General Synod Delegates, Pro-Cathedral and miscellaneous files of the Committee on Chaplain Service to the Forces.
