The Canadian Malvern was based on the Malvern Conference, England, held in 1941 when members of the Church of England met under the auspices of the Industrial Christian Fellowship on invitation of the Archbishop of York. This meeting resulted in a series of recommendations and principles relating to the life of the church and the whole order of society. The Canadian Malvern probed such topics as the relation of the church in Canada to the problems of “The Rural Community”, “Church Structure”, “Labour and Industrial Relations”, “Human Relations”, ‘Politics and Economics”, “Racial Discrimination and Treatment of Minority Groups”. A committee, the “Canadian Malvern Association” was then appointed to supervise the task of arranging and reporting the findings for wider distribution and study.
Fonds consists of printed material including the Report of the Canadian Malvern Conference, two copies of an article outlining its principles, an article entitled “Church League for Industrial Democracy: The Malvern Declaration”, and a note from the Canadian Malvern Association.
