The Rev. G.E. Lloyd (later Bishop of Saskatchewan), helped his sister, Mrs. Stamford found The Fellowship of the Maple Leaf, an organization to “Keep Canada British and Christian”.  Joining forces with the Empire, the Church of England recruited professional teachers from the British Isles to help in building a British Christian society in Western Canada.  These teachers were primarily women who sought employment, adventure and the opportunity to provide service to others.  The organization still exists today to support the work of the Anglican Church in western Canada.
