The Spadina-Bloor-Bathurst Interchurch Council (S.B.B.I.C) evolved in 1971 from the operation of the Old Inter Church Christian Education Committee to tackle social concerns of Metropolitan Toronto. Projects initiated by the council evolved around the poor, senior citizens, school children and newly arrived immigrants. The council originally consisted of representatives from seven churches of various denominations, including Bathurst Street United Church, Bloor Street United Church, St. Peter’s Church (Roman Catholic), St. Thomas Anglican Church, The Society of Friends, Trinity United Church and Walmer Road Baptist Church.
