Henry Hooper Marsh (1898-1995) was born in Lindsay, Ontario.  He was educated for the priesthood at Wycliffe College at the University of Toronto.  He was ordained deacon 1924 and priest in 1925 for the Diocese of Toronto where he served until being elected Bishop of Yukon in 1961.  He was Bishop of Yukon until 1967.  He retired in Ontario and died in Cobourg.

Henry Hooper Marsh was related to a number of other clergy and lay missionaries in the Anglican Church such as his father, Canon Charles H. Marsh, and uncle, the Rev. Thomas J. Marsh and Miss E.M. Wilgress.  Both T.J. Marsh and Miss Wilgress were at St. Peter’s residential school in Hay River.  Henry Marsh’s wife, Margaret Marsh, was an accomplished bird watcher and field naturalist, a good photographer, and a gifted public speaker.  She was also the editor of Notes & Nuggets and Northern Lights while living in the Diocese of Yukon.

Fonds consists of the personal papers, clerical papers, diaries, correspondence, sermons, publications, and photographs created or collected by H.H. Marsh; as well as Margaret Marsh, Canon Charles Marsh, and Elizabeth (Bessie) M. Wilgress.

Fonds includes photographs and information about Chooutla residential school in Carcross, Yukon; as well as Miss Wilgress’s diaries from St. Peter’s residential school in Hay River, N.W.T. (1900-1911).
