MinistryMatters will not be printed this fall

MinistryMatters, the publication on ministry distributed free of charge to Anglican clergy and lay leaders, will not be published this fall as a result of the recent round of cuts to the General Synod operating budget.

The church’s budget for 2005 was cut by more than $400,000 this summer as a result of a re-examination of revenues expected between the time of the cuts and the end of the year. Many of the cuts were made to the department of Communications and Information Resources, which produces and publishes MinistryMatters.

The award-winning magazine is published three times a year at a cost of approximately $13,000 per edition and is distributed to all Anglican clergy and General Synod committee members as well as to many parish officials who have asked to receive it. It has a total circulation of about 5,000. Since its inception more than 10 years ago,MinistryMatters has become one of the most popular publications produced by General Synod and has won awards both for its design and for its content.

MinistryMatters is mailed to recipients as part of a package called the Ministry Mailer, which normally includes several inserts produced by General Synod departments. The Mailer is also cancelled for this fall.

A version of the magazine, which will include feature articles and regular columns, will be posted to the General Synod web site (www.anglican.ca) in late September.

Publication of the periodical should resume with the Winter, 2006, edition.
