You are invited to download a packet of six Anglican-Lutheran Epiphany devotions for corporate or personal use this season. Following the gospels of the season, the devotions incorporate fresh and unusual hooks-from a Rumi poem to a meditation on Niagara Falls.
The devotions begin on Jan. 6, 2013, Feast of the Epiphany, and continue to Feb. 10, Feast of the Transfiguration of our Lord. The authors are members of the Lutheran-Episcopal Coordinating Committee, USA, and the Joint Anglican-Lutheran Commission (JALC), Canada.
The Anglican Church of Canada and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada have been in full communion since the signing of the Waterloo Declaration in 2001.
The churches maintain autonomy but share in joint mission wherever possible, including sharing in the Eucharist and using each other’s liturgies. In 2001, a similar full communion agreement, Called to Common Mission, was signed by the Episcopal Church (USA) and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
“At a time when there are so many forces in the world that are trying to create further division among people of faith, this developing partnership, with all of its attendant growing pains, is really quite extraordinary,” said Bishop Michael Pryse (Eastern Synod), ELCIC co-chair of JALC. “That story needs to be broadcast much more effectively.”
In July 2013, the ACC and ELCIC will take another major step in full communion relations by holding a joint national assembly in Ottawa.
