National website transitions to new look

“Improve and enliven communications”—this was one of five practices proposed by the Anglican Church of Canada’s strategic plan, Vision 2019. One way General Synod is living out this mission is by launching a cleaner and clearer look for the national website, www.anglican.ca.

Last chance to sing "Silent Night"; videos due Dec. 14

This Sunday is your last chance to incorporate “Silent Night” into your church service, film it, then upload or mail in your video to General Synod by Dec. 14. The Silent Night Project is designed as a fun and festive unity-building activity, and all videos will be incorporated into a documentary, to be put online by Christmas as a gift to the world.

Anglican Church of Canada launches online gift guide

The Anglican Church of Canada is pleased to announce the online launch of Acts of Faith: A Guide to Supporting the Ministries of the Anglican Church of Canada. The gift guide is a joint initiative of the departments of Philanthropy and Communications and Information Resources, and represents, within its pages, all the partners and charitable entities within the national church.

Memorial service for Ann Robertson will be held Dec. 2

Ann Christine Robertson, wife of General Synod staff Archdeacon John Robertson, died suddenly in Kingston, Ont., on Nov. 17. John Robertson is General Synod’s national gift planning officer. Together, Ann and John were known for their hospitality and generosity in and beyond their home diocese of Ontario.

A word to the Church from the House of Bishops

For the past six days, we have combined three meetings into one, while also enjoying the impressive hospitality of the Diocese of Montreal. The first several days consisted of our once-a-triennium “House and Spouse” gathering, at which bishops are invited to bring spouses so that we may enjoy each others’ company and share in our experiences.

Canadians join in Consecration of U.S. Bishop to the Forces

This was the Consecration of The Rt. Rev. Sexuality discernment statement released in French

General Synod’s statement on sexuality discernment is now available in French. At the General Synod 2010 meeting, members met several times in small groups to discuss human sexuality. This statement is a report from these conversations and acknowledges the differing viewpoints on human sexuality within the church as well as members’ desire to stay in conversation. The French translation is available below.

New resource will assist in sexuality discussions

A new discussion guide on human sexuality may help dioceses and parishes continue the robust, intentional dialogue modeled at General Synod 2010. At General Synod in Halifax June 3 to 11, members met in small groups to discuss sexuality in their home contexts. Then they affirmed a statement, which acknowledged that despite differing viewpoints, they desired to stay in conversation.
